ECHO Mentoring Program

The ECHO Mentoring Program was initially set up to increase visibility among multicultural talent. Over the past few years, various organizations have committed themselves to the mentoring program, including Shell in the first three years. On shell’s initiative, ABN AMRO, KPN, and NS joined forces in the following years, with which the mentoring program grew into a broader network of mentoring. In the years that followed, various organizations from the public and private sectors joined, including KPMG, Schiphol Group, Hogan Lovells, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW), Alliander, the Municipality of Amsterdam, Achmea, the Association of Universities of Applied Sciences (VH) and Google.

ECHO Award

Every year ECHO, expertise center for diversity policy, celebrates the success of the multicultural society in the Netherlands with the presentation of the ECHO Award. Last year, ECHO celebrated the 20th anniversary of the ECHO Award. The ECHO Award recognizes excellent students with a non-western background in higher education who act as global citizens in different contexts and who contribute to advancing equal opportunities for everyone as a social mission. Students who are eligible for an ECHO Award are successful students who distinguish themselves by their outstanding study performance, entrepreneurial attitude, organizing ability, impact on social innovation and vision on diversity and inclusion. Echo has been awarding the ECHO Award HBO and the ECHO Award WO every year since 2001. In the following years, the ECHO STEM Award and the Loyens & Loeff Law & Tax Award were added.

ECHO Summerschool

The ECHO Community Summer School is an interactive program developed as part of the European MURAL (Mutual Understanding Respect And Learning) project initiated by the British Council. In other countries such as Germany, England, Portugal, Greece and Poland, similar workshops are offered to strengthen inclusion in Europe. We have taken this opportunity to develop and implement a program for students and young professionals from the ECHO network who:

  • Want to strengthen their relationship with other ECHO community members
  • Want to learn from the experiences and ideas of people from the ECHO network and vice versa
  • Want to share and exchange ideas they have for inclusion in their own context (as a student or professional) and who want to develop a concrete plan of action for the short or long term goal

ECHO Studytrip

The purpose of the study trip is to provide concrete examples of programs in both secondary (vocational) education and higher education for so-called ‘pathways to success.’ The study trip centers on programs that are inclusive and focus on promoting study success through regional cooperation. UCLA achieves this by creating a culture of inclusive excellence and transfer programs in collaboration with a large network of community colleges and high schools that provide access to education. In specific, the transfer programs optimally prepare students for a successful transition to university and emphasize student retention during the first year at UCLA. During the study trip, participants will be introduced to a large number of inspiring speakers, both professionals and students from UCLA, Community Colleges and High Schools. During the program, ECHO will guide and facilitate the participants in translating American experiences into the Dutch context.
