We vs Them# 12: From College to Community

10 September 2018

In collaboration with Pakhuis de Zwijger, ECHO organizes: ‘We vs Them# 12: From College to Community’, a program that examines the gap between universities and communities.

Diversity and inclusion are high on the agenda both in society and in education. Increasingly, the realization is growing that students in higher education must be prepared for their role as a professional in a society that is super-diverse. Theoretical exercises prove increasingly difficult to apply to the complex reality of the city. To what extent are students prepared and equipped for this diversity? Are they able to cope with challenges surrounding diversity and turn this into a positive force? What does this mean for the relationship between universities, university colleges and the cities in which they are located? During this meeting we will address these questions together with international experts, active students and local initiatives by looking at practical examples and the possible benefits of community work for higher education.
